DecodeChess developed cutting-edge cognitive computing approaches to emulate human abstract thinking. Unlike chess engines which search for good moves, DecodeChess looks for chess concepts. Every suggested chess concept is verified to being relevant and important to the decoded position. For example, an open file is suggested as a factor of the position only if it can be proved to affect the future course of the game.
Previous trials in the direction of explaining the position focused on using the chess engine’s evaluation function. However, since a computer’s chess understanding of a position is no match to the human one, these attempts resulted in limited capabilities. In contrast, DecodeChess bases its conclusions on vast searching abilities of the search engine (Stockfish in our case) to achieve high precision in identifying the correct factors in the position.
