India ranked 144 in UN World happiness Index 2020 – Finland ranked 1st and Afghanistan last in Index

UN’s 8th World Happiness Report 2020 was released by the Sustainable Development Solutions Network on March 20, 2020. March 20 was designated as the World Happiness Day(International Day of Happiness) by the UN General Assembly in 2012.
How this Index came into existence?

Bhutan proposed a World Happiness Day to the United Nations in 2011, which brought international attention to happiness as a measurement of well-being. In 2012, the United Nations General Assembly declared March 20 as World Happiness Day, recognizing «the relevance of happiness and well-being as universal goals and aspirations in the lives of human beings around the world and the importance of their recognition in public policy objectives.“
This report is the eighth to come out since 2012.
About the World Happiness Report

The World Happiness Report ranks 156 countries by how happy their citizens perceive themselves to be. The rankings are based on polling (Gallup World Poll) which looks at six variables: GDP per capita, social support, healthy life expectancy, freedom, generosity, and absence of corruption.
Nordic states dominated the top 10 rankings of world happiness index 2020.
The Nordic Region consists of Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland, and Iceland, as well as the Faroe Islands, Greenland, and Åland
