Hi, I’m Melissa, and I want to tell you about the ups and downs of my friendship group.
There are 6 of us, 3 boys and 3 girls. We formed a tight bound in freshman year and have been super close ever since. It was great being a part of the impenetrable 6 – I knew that other kids were jealous of our closeness.
Everyone at school knew about our bond – I saw the way they looked at us with envy, wishing that they were a part of something so tight.
There’s nothing I wouldn’t have done for all 5 of them – I trusted them each with my life.

There were plenty of pluses to having such close friends. I never had to sit alone in the canteen. I never stayed sad for long as they soon cheered me up. We went on loads of adventures and had amazing parties. I got girl’s time with Alicia and Tara. And being friends with 3 cute boys, Elijah, Lucas, and Simon was pretty awesome too – I mean, the view was always great.
The downside to our group is that being so tight means that bringing outsiders into the mix never works. This makes dating difficult.

Lucas dated this one girl for a bit, he tried including her in our group outings but it was like there was this awkwardness there. We tried being nice to her, but she didn’t understand our in-jokes and just ended up feeling out of place.
It all got too much for Lucas’s girlfriend, so they broke up. There were no hard feelings or anything, she knew that our friendship group was irreplaceable.
